Jeff Kent
Jeff Kent is a retired Major League Baseball second baseman. In addition to being the 2000 National League MVP, Kent was a five-time All-Star and four-time Silver Slugger before retiring from Major League Baseball in 2009. During his career, he drove in more than 100 runs eight times (a record at the position), scored at least 100 runs three times and had at least 20 home runs 12 times. In 2008, he passed Ralph Kiner, Gil Hodges and Carlton Fisk on the all-time home-run list and passed Billy Williams, Dave Parker and Mickey Mantle on the all-time RBIs list. He's tied with Eddie Murray for 22nd on the all-time doubles list with 560.

During his 17-year career, he played for the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Houston Astros.

While with the Astros, Kent hit his 288th home run as a second baseman, surpassing Ryne Sandberg as the all-time home run leader at that position. A record his still holds.

In possibly his finest moment as an Astro, Kent hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth in Game 5 of the 2004 National League Championship Series to put Houston ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 in the series. However, the Cardinals would win games 6 and 7 in St. Louis to capture the pennant.

In recent years, Kent has been critical of players who used performance-enchancing drugs and continues to advocate for widespread testing to ensure a level playing field.

Since his retirement in 2009, he appeared as a contestant on the Summer 2009 television series Superstars, where he was teamed with actress Ali Landry in a series of sports competitions. They finished in fifth place in the competition.

Kent makes his home in Austin, TX with his wife and four children.
