Press Release | 18 Local Organizations to Receive United Way of Williamson County Funding

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas, July 2, 2010 – United Way of Williamson County (UWWC) Board of Directors has announced the 2010-2011 Community Investment Grants awarded to eighteen nonprofit programs serving the residents of Williamson County. Each of the funded programs is aimed at creating an impact in a specific area such as improving school readiness, increasing graduation rates, increasing the number of families receiving health care, providing access to prevention programs or helping families achieve financial stability.

United Way of Williamson County (UWWC) teamed up with the Round Rock Express for LIVE UNITED Night at the Ballpark on Monday, May 24. Fans lined up for LIVE UNITED t-shirts while Warren Jones, Hope Alliance board president, threw the opening pitch. UWWC's 2009-10 Partner Agencies talked to fans in the Heritage Center to recruit volunteers, promote upcoming events, and be a resource for those with questions.

Press Release | United Way of Williamson County Day of Caring Creates Impact in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas, April 26, 2010 – Gloomy weather did not deter more than 110 volunteers from participating in United Way of Williamson County’s Day of Caring on the morning of Saturday, April 17, 2010. United Way of Williamson County, The Volunteer Center and several nonprofit agencies worked together to gather volunteers and projects across the County making an incredible impact for the people they serve. “We are committed to advancing the common good and creating opportunities for a better tomorrow in Williamson County. The collective effort of more than a hundred people offering their time to volunteer in our community truly demonstrates what it means to LIVE UNITED - reaching out a hand to one which ultimately influences the condition of all.” said LeAnn Powers, Chief Professional Officer of United Way of Williamson County.

United Way of Williamson County (UWWC) presented the 2010 Janet Engvall McTigue Advancing Excellence Award to Williamson Burnet County Opportunities (WBC Opportunities) during a private reception at the home of Dorothy and Tom Shockley on Jan. 18, 2010. The staff and board members of United Way and WBC Opportunities, the Engvall family (including Bill Engvall, Jr., popular actor, comedian, and brother of Janet Engvall McTigue) participated in this special evening. MLK Jr. Day = Jan. 18, 2010

Some chose to make the MLK Jr. holiday on Jan. 18 a day 'on' —
giving of their time to volunteer projects around Williamson County.

Organized by United Way of Williamson County, The Volunteer Center and nine organizations, 175 volunteers raked, shoveled, organized, cleaned, and made blankets. Participating organizations included Williamson County Champion Park, Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County, Goodwill of Hutto, Round Rock Housing Authority, WBC Opportunities in Taylor and Spirit Reins in Liberty Hill. The blanket-making project was coordinated at the Neighborhood Conference Committee offices in Round Rock, with Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center and Hope Alliance as the beneficiaries of the blankets.

 

Some of the schools, businesses and service groups participating included Westwood High School, Target and the Round Rock ChangeMakers.
